Take Up the Cross and Follow Him

Matthew 16:24-25 New King James Version (NKJV)

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

Christian veterans group to hold ‘March for Jesus Christ’ event

Christian Veterans of the Bitterroot will host their second ‘March for Jesus Christ’ on Saturday, April 4.
“It is time for local Christians to stand up and show solidarity with fellow Christians here and around the world,” said event organizer Doug Mason. “The Christian Veterans of the Bitterroot are asking all Christians in the Bitterroot Valley to “March for Jesus Christ” on Holy Saturday, April 4, 2015.”
The march is scheduled to travel south on the pedestrian walkway along U.S. Highway 93, beginning at 7:15 a.m. at the Set Free Christian Fellowship Church in Lolo and ending at the Angler’s Roost Bridge south of Hamilton at approximately 8:15 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to participate – veteran or not – and the distance is a personal choice: three miles, 20 miles, or the entire 40 miles.
Mason said the Christian veterans asked all Bitterroot Valley churches to participate by walking a three-mile section as a group.
“If you can’t walk it, then provide a station with water, power bars, drinks, etc., to help those who are walking,” he said. “Last year, we had churches, organizations, families and individuals carry The Cross in three-mile increments from Hamilton to Lolo. We still need cross bearers for this year’s march.”
The beautiful cross carried in this march was built by Al Ostrander of Darby.
The Christian Veterans of the Bitterroot’s blog gave Doug Mason’s report on last year’s event as he carried the Cross the last leg of the event: “The adrenalin was pumping through my veins so much I couldn’t feel the actual weight of the cross, but the significance of the cross weighed heavy on my mind and soul. My savior Jesus Christ died upon the cross for my sins. I often think about the parable of The Sower in Mark chapter 4. I was a seed, I thought, that fell into the thorns, but now I am on ‘good soil’ and it is because of this cross. The cross traveled 40 miles in 13 hours through the beautiful Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana. Our goal was to focus on Jesus Christ for the entire time.”
The verse inspiring action is Matthew 16:24-25 New King James Version: 24. “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.’ ”

The final planning meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the Farmers State Bank conference room in Victor. The CVB asks for prayer for event planners.
The Christian Veterans of the Bitterroot are followers of Jesus Christ who have served in the military. They have a prayer breakfast every Monday, 7 a.m., at BJ’s restaurant.
“If you are a believer in Jesus Christ and a veteran, then you have a place in this group,” said Mason. “Our motto is ‘give back with love,’ and our goal is to help fellow veterans, their families and the local community through prayer and work. We want all Christians, particularly veterans, to know that they are not alone and we and others are here to help them.”
