Take Up the Cross and Follow Him

Matthew 16:24-25 New King James Version (NKJV)

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

The Death of Christianity in America (Part III – School and Scripture)

by

Though once run locally for the furtherance of the local community, public education can no longer best be described as anything other than, “Government Education”.

They own it. And what’s more, they want to.
From land to lunches, the Fed’s have promised free goodies, sans strings. But their promises have proven to be lies. Like every other facet of American life, the invasive leviathan of Government has wrapped its loving arms around refusing to let go its lover. The lovers’ name, you ask? CONTROL.
Self-reliance is the enemy of Government, because in the presence of self-reliance the Government becomes irrelevant.

Adolph Hitler said of education:

Let me control the textbooks and I will control the state.” (Quoted in William L. Shirer, “Education in the Adolph Hitler,” ch. 8, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich).
America is barreling into full-on Government education, and control of the same from kindergarten through higher education. In many cases, the schools have been infiltrated with Federally approved ideals to the point there is no reasonable means of repair.
God has been taken out of the schools, and “free thought” replaced with revisionist History and political correctness.
“Facts” and “truth” are secondary to mental manipulation for the training up of good citizens and workers for the Federal family. But upon further examination, there is no case to be made that in the historical record of America our Founders meant for God, and specifically Christianity, to be excluded from the schoolhouse. In fact, the Founding Fathers had much to say about Christianity and its role in education.
In 1749 Benjamin Franklin presented a plan of education for Pennsylvania public schools. In this plan he insisted that the schools teach in his words:
the excellency of the Christian religion above all others, ancient or modern.[Benjamin Franklin / 1749]
There are those in American Conservatism that would say Atheism and Conservative values can abide together, but I’m afraid Thomas Paine would disagree.
“The evil that has resulted from the error of the schools, in teaching natural philosophy as an accomplishment only, has been that of generating in the pupils a species of atheism. Instead of looking through the works of creation to the Creator himself, they stop short, and employ the knowledge they acquire to create doubts of his existence.
They labour with studied ingenuity to ascribe every thing they behold to innate properties of matter, and jump over all the rest by saying, that matter is eternal.” [Thomas Paine / The Existence of God—1810]
Our liberties do not exist in a vacuum: they are assured only by the hand of God. That has been proven throughout the history of America. How could we suppose we would take God from our children and emerge from the other side intact as a society, still trusting in God?
Our institutions become more humanistic and anti-religious with every passing decade. This process is accelerated by our reliance on Statist and atheist professors who train our children’s teachers, who in turn go on to train our children. We allow the educators to introduce a perverted version of the world to our young men and women.
Do we not realize our children are the only thing of meaning; the only true legacy we leave when we pass from this earth?
Pastor Voddie Baucham rightly put it this way,
“If we continue to send our children to Caesar for their education – We need to stop being surprised when they come home as Romans.” [Pastor Voddie Baucham]
Republicans and Conservatives alike complain about the lack of self-reliance in America. Yet we load up our kids and deposit them directly onto the sidewalk in front of the closest Government school. We proudly watch as they march into the halls of government education without giving it as much as a second thought.

And to our shame, we do this with the full knowledge that any thought of God or faith must be checked at the door.
In a speech to the Delaware Indian Chiefs on May 12th, 1779, George Washington said,
“What students would learn in American schools above all is the religion of Jesus Christ.” [George Washington / May 12th, 1779]
This type of thinking has long since disappeared from our educational institutions, but we still insist that the system can be “fixed”. Because of the behemoth Teachers’ Unions have become, “fixing” means a continual call for more funding.
And as government involvement increases, parental involvement decreases. If we are to repair our educational system, abandoning it may be the only choice that remains. In the absence of serious competition, those in power will find new and more costly ways to hold that power.
We must then choose a better education option for our children, so that we can train them with our faith and morals. We need to understand what the Government knows all too well: our children are the only power we have to shape the future of America.
Alternatives are never easy.
Like streams of water, people generally choose a path of least resistance. “Going with the flow” is always the simplest course, because it presents the least amount of obstacles. The excuses for failing to choose an alternative are many, and seemingly well reasoned.

Taking personal responsibility for the education of our children is the most important thing we can do for our future and for the future of America.

Because of the supposed obstacles in our way, we take the easy route of leaving the education of our children to individuals with conflicting values, Liberal educations and, in many cases questionable motives. By ignoring our role in the education of our kids, we sacrifice our offspring to the gods of complacency.
When we choose to bring children into this world they number among our primary responsibilities. What we fail to understand is that we risk giving up our children’s future, and possibly their salvation for the sake of “convenience”.
In effect, our offspring are being offered up to the whims of politicians in exchange for expediency or material possessions.
Time to reclaim our preeminent duty to our children.
